Surely in today’s age everyone has at least been to the airport?
Well here is the Stansted Airport survival guide from Car Hire Stansted.
The first and most important thing is to ensure you have done everything your airline has asked you to do before setting off to the airport. Read carefully your confirmation email and ticketing making sure you do not have to perform backflips to get on the plane.
The most common problems are:
- Online Check In. If you have not paid for airport check in you will have to - but not at the check in desk. No you will have to queue at the customer service desk and then go back to the check in desk!
- Over sized or over-weight baggage. The ticketing will state the baggage allowances, please adhere to them or if you will be charged. If it is over-weight or over sized the baggage will be stowed meaning a charge. If it is still over weight for their stowage allowances then expect further charges!
- Too many bags. You can only carry one bag onto the plane in most circumstances and especially with Ryanair. If you make it past the check in then security or the boarding gate may refuse boarding. Hand bags, lap top cases etc all count as baggage. Make sure you only have one case if you are not checking in luggage.
- Incorrect ID - Make sure you have your passport
- Liquids, gels and prohibited items in your hand luggage. Only 100ml is allowed in a clear plastic bag - if you have more then check your bag otherwise it will be confiscated.
Other essentials include:
Good reading material and amusements for the kids (be prepared for delays)
Sandwiches and snacks if you want to avoid airport prices
Car hire or transport arrangements and all relevant paperwork and documents.
Travel insurance documents and all relevant telephone numbers.
If travelling within the EU please apply for a take you European Health Card.
